What is the best long zoom (10X and higher) digital camera for a semi-pro wannabe? Need photos in good light and action
I an Olympus C-755 and, as now, except for those who have difficulty taking good pictures in low light without a tripod I can carry everywhere when I travel. So I want to update. SLR looks good, but do not have built a long zoom. I do not want to carry a separate lens. I love cameras also use regular AA batteries. I saw a Sony Alpha and loved, except for the zoom is not big enough, but I like the emphasis placed on him, good for good pictures with little light, even from afar. Any knowledgeable people have any advice? Thank you (Does anyone know about the Canon S2 IS or S3 IS? Good for low light?)
Compact cameras are all around 3x zoom. You want more than that, if what you get, it will not return in your pocket. The Canon S3 is probably a good option is the better megazoom. It has a 12x zoom, image stabilizer, etc., and has received very good reviews: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canons3is/page14.asp One thing the S3 lacks however is a very good performance of the ISO. From the review: "800 ISO mode is too noisy to be truly useful. "But frankly, this is a problem with long-zoom cameras around. The only cameras and shoots that have a good ISO image quality are a couple of 3x zoom Fuji. The Fuji F30, F31, etc. are good in low light. Another thing and shoot cameras do not do well, it's action photography. They all have electronic viewfinders - that puts you 1/10th second behind the action to begin with a relatively slow auto focus (especially in low light), and lag relatively long shutter. By adding 3 things together, you will see a world difference compared to the realization of a digital SLR. You mentioned the Sony Alpha. This camera is a digital SLR. No is my favorite though. Instead, he would have a look at the Pentax K100D - It is small and relatively inexpensive, and was built in image stabilization. Or Nikon D40 / D50 or Canon Rebel XT. Canon and Nikon do not put image stabilization in the body, but to a certain end (high) lenses. Canon and Nikon have a path Upgrade incredibly well, however, and these entry-level organizations give you instant access to their complete range of lenses. These digital SLR cameras, entry-level are larger and more expensive than the S3, but you get better performance in low light, better responsiveness, more creative control, and (with a decent goal) better image quality. You can still keep things relatively compact have one of these agencies with an all-in-a goal, something like a 18-135mm or 18-200mm zoom. They do not offer a high quality zoom, but they are worse than the point of 10x optical zoom and shoots. Even with a card of 2 GB of fast memory, these basic configurations dSLR cost less than $ 900.
